ELECTRIC VEHICLE MAINTENANCE
Electric Vehicle Maintenance available at Barberino Nissan
While electric vehicles generally require less maintenance than a traditional gas-powered one, there are still regular services and check-ups that must be completed in order to ensure that the vehicle stays in the best shape possible. This will also help you to get as many years out of your vehicle as possible. Here, we’ve created a general guide of some basic maintenances that ought to be performed on your electric vehicle – read on for more details.
Monthly:
At least once a month, check your tires to ensure the pressure is optimal. You’ll also want to look for signs of excess wear and tear, as this can lead to dangerous situations.
Check the windshield washer fluid levels so you can be certain that you’ll have a clear field of vision while driving, regardless of any weather conditions.
Every 7500 miles:
To get the most miles, you’ll want to rotate your tires every 7500 miles or so. This ensures a more even wear of your tires, resulting in less frequent replacement.
It’s also a good time to check the coolant levels of the battery, to drain and service coolant circuits, and to check for any fluid leaks – if there are leaks, they need to be addressed immediately. At this same time, you can check that your cabin heater, power inverter, accessory power, and charger modules are all working properly.
Lastly, verify that your brakes are in good working order, as you absolutely do not want a surprise when you go to press the brake pedal. You should also check your suspension gas struts, and replace them if necessary.
As a general rule of thumb, you can expect to replace the windshield wiper blades every 36,000 miles or so, while your cabin air filter will typically need to be replaced roughly every 75,000 miles.
When in doubt, you can always refer to your owner’s manual for the recommended maintenance schedule of your particular model. You should also keep in mind that if you’ve been driving under severe weather conditions, additional and/or more frequent maintenance will most likely be required.
